What does a Sunday morning look like at Journey?
The first thing you'll notice when you walk into the Gretna Middle School is that we dress rather casually at Journey Church. Even the speaker will be wearing jeans so dress however you desire. When you first walk through the doors you'll see a large cafeteria on your right where we serve free donuts, bagels as well as hot and cold drinks between services. You'll also notice an information table near the front doors and a children's ministry table as well. We have a great kids ministry from birth through 6th grade that goes on at the same time as our service, but children are more than welcome to attend service with you if you'd prefer. The service itself is located in the gym, which will be easy enough to find! Above all, you can expect to find a group of people who will treat you with respect regardless of where you might find yourself on your spiritual journey. Whether you are a long time follower of Jesus or a bit of a skeptic, we think you'll find Journey to be a safe place to discover the real Jesus.
Below are some pre-answered questions to help provide you with an idea of what Journey is like:
When and where are services?
What should I wear?
Journey is a relaxed place, so don't worry about what to wear. In the summertime, it's not uncommon to see people wearing sandals, shorts, and a t-shirt. Others prefer to put on their "Sunday best," and that's fine too! We think you'll fit in no matter how you dress.
How many people go to each service?
You can expect to see about 200 people in either service.
How long is each service?
Both services are identical and last approximately 60 minutes.
Where should I park?
Parking is available at the main entrance to the school. Handicap access to the building is available. If you or anyone with you needs assistance getting from the car to the service, our staff at the Information Table near the front door is more than happy to help!
Where do my children go?
Journey Kids is the perfect place for your kids (infant through sixth grade) to go while you attend service. However, you are more than welcome to bring your children to the service if you prefer. If you would like your children to go to Journey Kids, please stop by the Children's Ministry Table located on your left when you first enter the building. Our friendly staff will help you get checked in and show you where each child's room is. Once your child is checked in you will receive a claim ticket with a number corresponding to your child in order to pick up your child later on. If an issue arises while your child is in our care, we will discreetly notify you to come pick up your child by displaying your child's 3 digit code on the screens (example: 211).
For the safety and security of your child, it is important that you keep track of your claim ticket. This helps us know that you are the person authorized to pick up your child.
Am I expected to give any money?
Absolutely not. In fact, we don't even take an offering or "pass the plate". If you are visiting us just come expecting a fun morning and to be apart of a modern worship experience.
What is the worship service like?
The band usually starts playing the first songs five minutes before the service starts. We have a great worship team that includes a mix of guitars, drums, piano and even a violin on occasion! We typically spend about 30 minutes in worship and the pastor preaches for 25 minutes.
