Gary Zessin

Gary and his wife, Nancy, have lived in Gretna since the early 1970s. They have 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren. Gary taught upper elementary grades in Gretna for 35 years and is now retired, but still works part-time as a substitute teacher and golf instructor/coach. Gary enjoys landscaping, golf, and exercising. Gary and Nancy started coming to Journey in 2013 years and have enjoyed learning and serving in the church. Gary’s deepest desire is to help people move ahead in their spiritual lives in whatever context that may be.

Gary gave his life to Jesus as Savior as a result of a friend sharing his faith with him while a college student. He was struggling in many ways and seeking meaning and direction in life and found all of those things as a Christ-follower. Gary was fortunate to have several people help him grow as a believer in and after college, and has experienced Jesus meet pertinent needs while serving in the Army, dealing with family health issues, raising children with special needs and financial challenges. As a result of that, Gary has a desire to help others find meaning and fulfillment that only Jesus can give!

Gary has been involved in small groups for many years and enjoys helping people get connected in order to develop closer friendships and take their next step on their spiritual journey.
